Biggest Little Fishing Contest 2007

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

I am currently working with the Scugog Standard on a contest that is very worthwhile.  We are collecting, from readers, fishing tackle to be donated to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation of Canada.  We hope to be able to give the gift of fishing to children looking for positive influences.  We have had an overwhelming response to the donations for this program!  In addition to the regular donations The Canadian National Sportsmen’s Show just donated 85 rod and reel combos to the program. Thanks Walter and Ray!

Tackle donors will have their name entered for the grand prize of a day fishing with myself and Toronto Argonauts Jude St. John and Mike O’Shea along with a Scugog Standard reporter.

I have rallied support from fishing industry leaders for donations for the two separate categories.

  1. Category 1 - Donations from the sponsors to be given directly to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.
  2. Category 2 - Donations from the sponsors for randomly drawn items to be given to the anglers donating their tackle to the drive.

Many sponsors have donated items to Category 1 or Category 2 and some have given to both.  We will begin and finish the random draw process in October of this year.  Items will be accepted through to October 31 when we will make the one large donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters.  At this point in time is appears, I’m proud to say, that we are well over 150 rods and reels along with various tackle to be donated to the Big Brothers and Sisters. Enough, as described in the article below, to share with additional chapters!

I have to admit that this whole tackle drive/contest has become quite addictive. I love the fact that we are all doing something special for kids in need. It’s one thing to run an event for any organization but what we are giving is a gift that will last much longer than this. There doesn’t have to be a special event organized...these kids will be able to enjoy fishing anytime. Kudos to all of you... Doesn’t it feel great!

It amazes me how much has been given. It’s one thing to offer products that you have available to you (and greatly appreciated) but many of the sponsors have gone the extra mile by not only offering the commitment of the companies they work for but also by offering personal gear of your own. This is truly why I love this industry and hope to be around for a very long time... There are simply so many good people involved. Thank you to everyone of you.

One such person is
Big “Jim”. On a quick drive through town last week.... Scugog Standard editor Rik Davie, Jim and myself posed for a photo that ran in the Scugog Standard this week. Jim had stopped by to drop off his own personal gear to the drive. A real class act, Jim didn’t mind putting up with our silly antics. The photo that ran in the paper is attached below.

We are nearing the end of this contest and I would again like to thank all of you for your part in it.

Donations can be dropped off or mailed to us at the
Scugog Standard in Port Perry or DT Powersport in Uxbridge.

Email me for any additional questions or comments.

Special thanks to our contest sponsors:
